Introduction
The KRA is KBDS’s archive of high-throughput sequencing data, which submission format is completely compatible with the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (INSDC), which includes the NCBI Sequence Read Archive(SRA), the European Bioinformatics Institute(EBI), and the DNA Database of Japan (DDBJ).
Data processing in KRA
The KRA is publicly available repository of high throughput sequencing data. KRA accepts data from all branches of life as well as metagenomic and environmental surveys. KRA stores qualified raw sequencing data produced by next generation sequencing technologies and alignment information.
Data from human subjects should be used in compliance with all applicable guidelines and regulations. It is the responsibility of submitting parties to ensure that they have appropriate consent for human sequence data to be distributed publicly without access controls. For further information, consult with institutional review boards and Korea Human Biological Data Bank (KHBDB ).
Following submission, data are subject to automated and manual processing to ensure data integrity and quality and are subsequently made available to the public. More details about this process can be found on the below Data release.
Data Release
Scientific data submitted to KBDS will be released and shared to the public with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) data principles. Sharing scientific data accelerates biomedical research discovery, in part, by enabling validation of research results, providing accessibility to high-value datasets, and promoting data reuse for future research studies.
Accordingly KBDS-KRA encourages the submitters to release and make accessible their genetics data as soon as possible. However, submitter may need to hold their data in the meantime, mainly due to publication of academic papers or journal articles, or patent application/registration. In such cases, the scientific data underlying review process for articles or patent could be hold until the submitter-specified date (up to 3 years).
* Data Release for the Research and Development Outcomes (KOR. 연구성과물)
The Research and Development Outcomes is the scientific data that an investigator have planned to generate and described in the Data Management Plan(DMP) as a part of the funding application.
Under the National Research and Development Innovation Act in Korea, the investigator should submit the R&D outcomes to KBDS and it should be released and shared by the end of the performance period (no longer than 3 months after the submission of the final report of grant).
If the embargo period extension is permitted by the funding agency, then the data should be released by the end of the extended period (no longer than 18 months). To learn more, read the Enforcement Decree of the National Research and Development Innovation Act (Korean ) or ask to your funding agency.
