Innovative Platform Technology for COVID-19 mRNA Vaccines

혁신적 코비드19 mRNA 백신 플랫폼 기술

The ultimate goal of this project is to secure a proprietary mRNA vaccine platform technology that is differentiated from existing mRNA vaccines, which currently rely on foreign patented technologies, and to use this platform to generate a clinical candidate for a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine with completed nonclinical studies. In particular, given the ongoing emergence of new variants that necessitate periodic updates of vaccine antigens, the project sets as a core objective the development of a next-generation mRNA vaccine incorporating an independent platform technology that enables freedom-to-operate through patent circumvention and allows rapid adaptation to newly emerging variants.

본 과제의 최종 목표는 현재 외국 특허 기술에 의존하고 있는 기존 mRNA 백신과 차별화되는 독자적인 mRNA 백신 플랫폼 기술을 확보하고, 이를 기반으로 비임상 시험을 완료한 COVID-19 mRNA 백신 임상 후보물질을 도출하는 것이다. 특히 지속적인 변이주 출현으로 백신 항원의 주기적 업데이트가 요구되는 상황에 신속히 대응할 수 있도록, 특허 회피가 가능한 독자 플랫폼 기술을 적용한 차세대 mRNA 백신 개발을 핵심 목표로 설정하였다.
